Liebster Blog Award | Featured Artiste(s): Take Phive

Last week Monday, I checked my e-mail and received a pleasant surprise:  AdeOla Fadumiye of JostWrite nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award! To say I was pumped and ecstatic for the rest of the day is an understatement.  It's a wonder I didn't bounce off the walls!  So, this is me saying a big "Thank You" to AdeOla. I really and truly appreciate it.  If you haven't already, you should check out her blog, JostWrite.

Apart from relentlessly trying to uncover my real identity (Yawn! I will come out when I am ready jare) she is a very efficient and energetic freelancer (Congrats again on the new logo).  I encourage you to visit her blog and you'll be inspired, believe me.

Just in case you were wondering what the Liebster Blog Award was, here's some brief info, courtesy of JostWrite, of course: "This award we’ve discovered is given to bloggers who inspire you and have less than 200 followers. The Liebster Award takes its name from the German word meaning 'Beloved, Dearest or Favorite.' "

And now for the terms and conditions:

1. Link back to the person who gave it to you and thank them.
2. Post the award to your blog.
3. Give the award to 5 bloggers with less than 200 followers that you appreciate and value (It’s a great way to get the word out there about other blogs!!)
4. Leave a comment on the 5 blogs to let them know that they have received this award.

I believe I have covered Terms 1 and 2.  Now for #3 and #4.

*Drum roll, please*

I am very pleased to nominate the following bloggers for the Liebster Blog Award:

1.  Naija4Life - A Pen and A Heart and Education that works for Nigeria
2.  Jemima - Joy of my world
3.  Toinlicious - It's Toinlicious
4.  Atilola - Atilola Writes
5.  Michael Onobote - @Moi Frequency

Congratulations to all the recipients! Please know that if you read, follow, comment and/or stalk this blog, I appreciate you very much :-)

And now for some music.  This blog has been "music-less" for too long, don't you think?

Featured Artiste(s): Take Phive

Take Phive is a group of 10 talented men and women currently based in Kaduna, Nigeria, and my first encounter with their music was through their single, titled "Imela."

TAKE PHIVE | From Left to Right: Jerry "J.Clone" Dauda, Jessica Abraham, Godwin Peter, Paul Iliya, Olatunji "Oooteejay" Olasehinde, Ephraim Haruna (a.k.a Ephraem Chene), Sarah Katai, Japhet Fai, Amara Bawa (in front).  Missing from this picture: Blessing Daniel

It's a fresh spin on a classic praise song.  The moment I heard it, I knew I had to review it.  So, without any further ado, here is Imela:

THE REVIEW

Likes:  The strong acoustic feel is definitely a highlight of this song, especially along with the beats/instrumentation.  Another strong suit is the song arrangement, which was very simple, and I must really commend whoever was responsible for that aspect.  The song arrangement and structure exhibited the cohesiveness of the group, while simultaneously giving us a brief glimpse of the strengths of each member.

Dislikes: The only complaint I have is with the vocalist who led from around 3:36 - 4:00.  He sounded off and was straining right in the middle of the song.  But they all got back on course and it was smooth sailing for the rest of the song.

Recommendations:  (1) This is the first time I have made this type of recommendation, but here goes: Take Five might want to consider a remix of Imela, which will be a fully acapella version, i.e. no instruments; just voices.  I think it would be sweet.  (2) The order of vocalists can be changed slightly to accomodate the vocalist I referred to above, so that he takes a section of the song that suits his vocals better, and where he is more comfortable.

Finally, some more information on Take Five:
