Don't be a Foolish Builder

Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good.

Psalm 127: 1 (NLT)*

I am sure you have either read this bible verse before, or at least, you've heard someone recite it.  Or something close to it.  What about this one:

A wise woman builds her home,

but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

Proverbs 14: 1 (NLT)*

Was this one also familiar? Not so much, right.  For me, it wasn't familiar, but it made a lot of sense, unlike some bible verses that I have struggled with.  On the surface, these two verses look like they have nothing to do with each other, but they do.

"Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted."

Wasted.  Completely useless.  They might as well have never bothered.  I don't know about you, but when I read that verse, I wondered: Why do I have to build? Why not just leave everything to God?  And this is the answer that came to my mind: Because God has His own role to play, and so do you.

You see, God never promises that He will do EVERYTHING for us.  He has given us special assignments to do, but He doesn't leave us helpless.  The Holy Spirit is our divine helper, and to get the best possible result, we have to start with Him.  Put Him first in everything.  God has to be the foundation of everything you build with your hands: your career, your marriage, your family, everything and anything.  Or else, you're just wasting your time.

Chances are that if you start building anything with God, you will more than likely continue with Him.  I believe that is what God wants us to do, i.e. to involve Him every step of the way in every single decision we make.  If you start with Him, please end with Him too.  He is not called the Alpha and Omega for nothing.

True talk! God has a role to play and so does man... leaving God out of the equation is why most fail

Yes oh, we have our part to play. I pray that God will help us to stay focus so we can play our part well!

Its all fruitless if God isn't involved.

@ilola

This is so true. We are supposed to be like God's hands extended on earth. That is why we need to be in partnership with him for every venture we embark upon. It's foolhardiness to struggle, when God has invited us to partner with Him for a stressless venture. Lord have mercy.

@NollywoodREinvented:disqus : I concur. It is wise to involve God in even the smallest details.

@google-3b2af549588583827e2dec7f3b0d5528:disqus : Good point. Good prayer point too. May God help us all in Jesus name.

@ilola:disqus : Yes o. God must be involved all the way for the best results.

@google-48f8957ea85ab00ab22039c56c74002b:disqus : I really like how you put it: God's hands extended on earth. Walking with God is a partnership, like you said, and that is worth remembering. Thanks for the reminder.

I'll involve him in everything I do this week. God first has always been the easiest way out and will always be for me. Thanks for sharing. :-) God bless you!

Michael: Amen o! :-) Yes, we should always involve him in everything and put Him first.
