This Friday's Free Downloads | Featuring Protek (Rooftop Clan), Okey Sokay, Propane (CIA)

This Friday, the following artistes' songs are available as free downloads (see what I did there):

  1. Protek - Ayaya Featuring Okey Sokay
  2. Propane of CIA (Christ I Abide) - Ekwulekwu

1. PROTEK - AYAYA
FEATURING OKEY SOKAY

Ayaya is an Ibibio word, not a Yoruba word, but I would like to classify this as "jelenke" (easy motion) music.  You just want to sway, nod your head, and even komole to this song.  Yes, I just confessed what I did when I heard the song.  Can you blame me?

Protek is a rapper who recently joined the Rooftop Clan (formerly Rooftop MCs). Ayaya is his latest single, released earlier this month.

You can read more about him in the press release:

1. Paul Oti - Malafakumo (Don't be afraid)

Paul Oti is a music minister and vocal coach with passion for God based in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. He has worked with Ebiere and Afy Douglas who are top notch gospel acts in the South-South region and has organised great concerts to promote the gospel of Christ. He loves training choirs and helping people that are not very good singers to be the best.

MUSIC: Propane - "Simple Praise" Featuring Dornell (Produced by RuggedBeatz)

Propane is a member of Christ I Abide, a group of rappers featured here for their single, What You Do. This year, the group members have released solo projects.  Simple Praise is Propane's single, featuring Dornell. Here is the press release followed by the song download:

THIS Friday's Free Downloads: Ephraem Chene (Ephraim Haruna), IBK Spaceship Boy and Ernythang (Ernest Bisong), Christ I Abide (C.I.A)

If you listen to Nigerian music regularly, one instrument that features quite regularly (apart from the keyboard and drums) would be the guitar.  However, the guitar is just one of many string instruments.  It is always refreshing to see musicians, particularly gospel artistes, creatively using other string instruments in unique and interesting ways.  And that brings us to this Friday's free downloads.

Apart from the fact that today's free downloads are well-produced and delightful to the ears, the first two downloads have one thing in common:  a strong and pervasive use of the violin.  You'll see (or hear) what I mean in a little bit. Meanwhile, let me briefly introduce you to the artistes one by one.
